SUMMARY:What Happened at Christmas
DESCRIPTION:What Happened at Christmas\nIn this season of light and memory\, the Barossa Regional Gallery becomes a place where stories return. A 30-foot tree once stood in the Tanunda Soldiers’ Memorial Hall; children gathered in its shadow\, families sang. Now\, those echoes meet new voices.  \nWe make\, we trace\, we write\, we remember. What Happened at Christmas is a weaving of heritage and imagination\, a tender invitation to share the traditions that shaped us\, and the ones we still carry. Here\, Christmas is not a date\, but a feeling of home.  \nJoin us in a gentle remembering; of wonder\, of belonging\, of the Barossa itself. A season held\, and held again.  \n \n  \nWhat Happened at Christmas invites the Barossa community to remember and share Christmas stories\, from childhood wonder to family traditions\, festive gatherings and moments of quiet connection. Handwritten memories\, family anecdotes and reflections from visitors will be displayed throughout the Gallery\, surrounded by decorations inspired by the region’s own Christmas heritage.  \n  \n  \nThree creative collaborations bring these stories to life:  \n\nMake a Pressed Tin Ornament: Printmaker Avylon Magarey has created linocut designs based on historic Barossa Christmas trees. Visitors are invited to trace and emboss these designs into soft aluminium to make ornaments to keep or add to the Gallery tree. \n\n\nPost a Christmas Memory: Artist Sam Cowley (Little Adventurers) has reimagined the Barossa Museum’s historic post office mailbox as a storytelling installation. Write your Christmas memory on special card from Daisy Loves George\, collect a stamp along a short walk through town\, and post it in the mailbox to hear voices sharing their own stories. \n\n\nGarlands & Stories: Start at Daisy Loves George\, where designer Anna Hayes has created stationery for you to write Christmas memory or message at their vintage letter writing desk. Seal it\, carry it through town\, and post it into the Gallery’s story mailbox. \n\n\nInside the Gallery\, paper garlands designed in the same spirit of colour and pattern hold the room in celebration. A quiet connection between handwritten word and the festive space.\n\nAll welcome. Free. All materials supplied. \nFeature Image: Mother and Child sitting by Christmas Tree. SUMMARY:Visioning
DESCRIPTION:The Barossa Regional Gallery and Barossa Museum present: \nVISIONING\n4 September – 3 November 2025\nAn exhibition exploring how art shapes the way we see the Barossa\, past and present.  \n \nIn 1844\, George French Angas travelled through South Australia\, sketching the landscapes\, villages\, and people of the young colony. His images of the Barossa\, later published as hand-coloured lithographs in South Australia Illustrated (1847)\, offered British audiences persuasive visions of a fertile\, orderly\, and promising land. While based on real scenes\, these works were polished to entice investors and settlers\, shaping early perceptions of the region.   \nToday\, Angas’s works remain valuable historical records — and reminders of how colonisation was visually imagined and promoted. Visioning sets these early images alongside contemporary interpretations by poet Daniel Fuller\, photographer Aidan Dorrian\, and artist-designer Jacob Logos. Each reflects on the Barossa’s past\, present\, and future\, offering new perspectives on its people\, landscapes\, and creative identity.   \nSupported by the TiCSA Activating Heritage Tourism grant and The Barossa Council’s Arts\, Culture and Heritage Strategy\, Visioning invites visitors to ask: how do visions of place evolve\, overlap\, or diverge across time?   \nDATES: 4 September – 3 November 2025\nLOCATION:  47 Murray Street\, Tanunda\nAGE: Suitable for all ages \nThe Barossa Regional Gallery is currently located at The Barossa Museum. Opening days are Monday\, Thursday\, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 3pm. \nVisioning is an initiative of the Barossa Regional Gallery\, in collaboration with The Barossa Museum. \n \nFeature Image: Angaston Evening\, George French Angas\, 1844. SUMMARY:Ellen Schlobohm Alchemy of Blue - SALA 2025
DESCRIPTION:Join us for SALA 2025:\nAlchemy of Blue by artist Ellen Schlobohm\n31 JULY – 1 SEPTEMBER 2025\nDeveloped by sunlight\, Alchemy of Blue is a luminous series of cyanotypes by South Australian artist Ellen Schlobohm\, celebrating the intricate beauty of nature and the enduring presence of history. \nUsing the historic cyanotype technique — a photographic printing process that predates even film — Schlobohm creates cameraless images by placing objects directly onto sensitised paper and exposing them to UV light. The result: delicate\, ethereal blue compositions that hold both detail and mystery.  \nThis process\, once used for botanical documentation by pioneering figures like Anna Atkins\, becomes in Schlobohm’s hands a poetic visual language — one that bridges science and art\, past and present. Each work invites viewers to slow down and observe the forms\, textures\, and light that shape our everyday environments and collective memory.  \n  \n \n  \nPresented in partnership with the Barossa Museum\, the exhibition is grounded in dialogue with the Museum’s extensive collection of antique cameras\, photographic tools\, and early prints. While Schlobohm’s cyanotypes are made without a camera\, their presence pays homage to the technical ingenuity and historical legacy of photography. The exhibition reframes the act of image-making as both documentation and alchemy — an interplay of chemistry\, sunlight\, and time.  \n \nBathed in stunning shades of indigo and Prussian blue\, Alchemy of Blue offers viewers a contemplative visual narrative: one that honours the evolving relationship between nature\, memory\, and the photographic image.  \n  \n \n  \nFeature Image: Still Life by Ellen Schlobohm. 2024\, cyanotype on paper\, 250mm x 250mm. SUMMARY:Fallout by Roland Weight
DESCRIPTION:Barossa based artist Roland Weight presents the tangible fallout stemming from recent creative enthusiasms. Featuring landscapes\, metaphysical or emotional themes and ambitious ideas stemming from larger complex works. \nWeight’s diverse art practice includes sculpture\, realist and abstract painting\, drawing\, collage\, community art\, public sculptures and teaching. He has developed a method of realist painting concerned with the effects of light reflected from objects and done from life in a single session. His abstract works show the influence of European and American modernist artists and attempt new directions through the use of colour and spatial order. \nWeight’s steel assemblage sculptures are the latest in a long series of investigations and explorations of the subject / material interplay. The works can be viewed as three dimensional drawings using the thrust and delineation of steel to shape the space in and around it.

SUMMARY:Stability\, Grace\, Endurance: Hand Crafted in Early Barossa
DESCRIPTION:When German settlers embarked across the seas to make the Barossa their home\, they carried with them in their trunks more than items alone. Woven into each object is a story of love\, culture\, heritage\, and craftsmanship which has unfolded and endured to this day.
