An accomplished composer\, performer\, piano technician and installation artist\, Rae’s work draws inspiration from the natural world and from the instruments themselves — from the buzz of bees to the inner workings of the piano.  \nIn this informal talk\, Rae will share the story of her latest project\, The Piano: Hook\, Line & Tinker\, a large-scale ‘exploded-view’ suspended piano installation that reveals the instrument’s intricate mechanics and the lifetime of music it carries.  \nLearn how her career has taken her across the globe\, collaborating with scientists\, artists and musicians\, and why her residency in the Barossa — home to the historic 1877 Hill & Son Grand Organ — is a vital step in the project’s development.  \nThe session includes an opportunity for questions\, offering insight for music enthusiasts\, students\, artists and anyone curious about the meeting point of art\, sound and engineering. \n  \nABOUT THE ARTIST – RAE HOWELL \nRae Howell is an award-winning Australian composer\, multi-instrumentalist and piano technician whose work fuses music\, sound and the environment. Founder of the Sunwrae Ensemble\, Rae creates innovative projects such as The Piano: Hook\, Line & Tinker\, an ‘exploded-view’ suspended piano installation revealing the instrument’s hidden mechanisms and stories.
