SUMMARY:Rolling Up Their Sleeves - Book Launch
DESCRIPTION:Rolling Up Their Sleeves – the classic recipes and the resilient women behind the iconic Barossa Cookery Book  \nImage: Front Cover of Rolling Up Their Sleeves book\, artwork ‘Barossa Gold’ 2017\, oil on canvas by Lise Temple. \n  \nOne of Australia’s first community cookbooks\, The Barossa Cookery Book\, was compiled in 1917 as a war fundraiser. Reworked in 1932\, it was reborn in a format that has become iconic. More than 100 years and 35 reprints later it remains a powerful symbol of generosity and resilience.  \nInspired by the remarkable history of the cookery book and the way its frugal and seasonal recipes continue to resonate\, Those Barossa Girls\, Sheralee Menz and Marieka Ashmore\, embarked on a journey to learn more. As they mapped out its history they were drawn into a close and inspiring community of women.  \nRolling Up Their Sleeves is the result of Those Barossa Girls delving into archives and family interviews\, then testing and translating the recipes for a contemporary generation. It is a modern cookbook that re-presents classic recipes and through personal profiles\, also honours a group of dedicated and open-hearted women.  \nThis book is one of the most exciting developments in our regional food story for several decades. Five years in the research and writing\, this book is part recipe book\, part social history. Engaging\, rich and substantial\, this book will feed your appetite and your soul – and we are throwing a launch party to match. Please join us as we officially launch this important book.  \nThe event will include wine and finger food.  \nIt is a free event\, however we ask that you register for catering purposes.  \nRSVP HERE \nTo pre-order your personally signed copy from Those Barossa Girls\, please click here: Rolling Up Their Sleeves – Those Barossa Girls  \nPre-ordered books will be available for collection.\nBooks will also be available for direct purchase during the evening.  \n  \nFeature Image (top): Rolling Up Their Sleeves authors\, Those Barossa Girls. SUMMARY:Artist Vincent Fantauzzo - Book Launch Event
DESCRIPTION:Vincent Fantauzzo – Unveiled\nMEET THE AUTHOR \nMarch sees the release of ‘Unveiled’ by renowned Australian portrait artist Vincent Fantauzzo and he is visiting us to share his story.  \n \n  \nWednesday 26h March\n6:00pm to 7.30pm \nCOST: $15\nLOCATION: Barossa Regional Gallery\nAGES: 18+\nDOORS OPEN: 5.45pm for 6pm start \nLight supper will be provided. \nBOOK TICKETS HERE \n  \n  \n‘Unveiled’ is the incredible true story of how a street-fighting petty criminal\, who was kicked out of school at fourteen\, became one of Australia’s most celebrated and successful portrait artists. Raised amid poverty and violence on the poor streets of Melbourne\, Vincent Fantauzzo was just a boy when he accepted\, he would either die very young\, become a gangster\, or end up behind bars. \nJoin Barossa Libraries and Barossa Regional Gallery on Wednesday 26 March to hear how Vincent used forged papers to hustle his way into art school where dark secrets threatened to sink his brilliant career before it even began. Today his work hangs in galleries around the world including the National Portrait Gallery and Federal Parliament House in Canberra. He’s sold-out international exhibitions\, won the Archibald Prize People’s Choice Award more times than any artist and taken out the Doug Moran Portrait Prize. Twice. \nWe look forward to learning more about Vincent and the remarkable\, sometimes ridiculous\, and occasionally glamorous\, life he willed into existence despite severe and undiagnosed dyslexia that left him with no formal education and debilitating memory problems. Sometimes tragic\, often hilarious but always deeply moving\, Unveiled is a paint-spattered\, star-studded\, white-knuckle ride from the Housing Commission ghettos of Australia to the art galleries of Hong Kong\, through the back roads of India and into the nightclubs of New York as Vincent chases his dream with humility\, humour and a boundless love for people and a life better lived. \nThis is an event that you will absolutely remember for many years. \n  \nImage 1: Vincent Fantauzzo\, Portrait Artist.
