DESCRIPTION:The Barossa Regional Gallery and Barossa Museum present: \nVISIONING\n4 September – 3 November 2025\nAn exhibition exploring how art shapes the way we see the Barossa\, past and present.  \n \nIn 1844\, George French Angas travelled through South Australia\, sketching the landscapes\, villages\, and people of the young colony. His images of the Barossa\, later published as hand-coloured lithographs in South Australia Illustrated (1847)\, offered British audiences persuasive visions of a fertile\, orderly\, and promising land. While based on real scenes\, these works were polished to entice investors and settlers\, shaping early perceptions of the region.   \nToday\, Angas’s works remain valuable historical records — and reminders of how colonisation was visually imagined and promoted. Visioning sets these early images alongside contemporary interpretations by poet Daniel Fuller\, photographer Aidan Dorrian\, and artist-designer Jacob Logos. Each reflects on the Barossa’s past\, present\, and future\, offering new perspectives on its people\, landscapes\, and creative identity.   \nSupported by the TiCSA Activating Heritage Tourism grant and The Barossa Council’s Arts\, Culture and Heritage Strategy\, Visioning invites visitors to ask: how do visions of place evolve\, overlap\, or diverge across time?   \nDATES: 4 September – 3 November 2025\nLOCATION:  47 Murray Street\, Tanunda\nAGE: Suitable for all ages \nThe Barossa Regional Gallery is currently located at The Barossa Museum. DESCRIPTION:🎹 Share your piano story! \nA pop-up piano in Tanunda Town Square is bringing music\, memories and conversations to life. \nMeet artist-in-residence Rae Howell and share your family’s piano story — maybe even play a few notes. Your memories and recordings will become part of Rae’s installation The Piano: Hook\, Line & Tinker\, celebrating the Barossa’s rich musical heritage.\n  \nWHEN: Throughout the residency – by appointment or drop-in during pop-up sessions:                  \nFriday 17th October – 9am to 11am \nFriday 24th October – 10am to 12pm \nFriday 31st October – 10am to 12pm \nFriday 7th November – 10am to 12pm \nVENUE: Tanunda Town Square\, 70 Murray Street Tanunda\, SA 5352 \nFree Event – All Welcome. \nPlease RSVP your attendance HERE. \n\nMORE INFORMATION\n \nThroughout her five-week Barossa residency\, composer and installation artist Rae Howell invites the community to gather and share the stories of their pianos. A well-loved upright piano will ‘pop-up’ in Tanunda Town Square\, transforming the public space into a welcoming hub of conversation\, memory and music-making.  \nFamilies and community are encouraged to drop by and play the piano\,  make a time to with Rae about the history of their own pianos — heirlooms passed down through generations\, long-retired instruments gathering dust in farmhouses\, or the piano that sparked a child’s first music lesson. Where possible\, participants can also record a short performance on the pop-up piano.  \nThese stories and recordings will help shape Rae’s ongoing project\, The Piano: Hook\, Line & Tinker\, an ‘exploded-view’ sonic installation that celebrates the beauty and craft of the piano while revealing the sounds and histories within.  \nThe pop-up piano sessions are free\, informal and open to everyone. By sharing your piano story\, you contribute to a living sound archive that honours the Barossa’s musical heritage and its enduring connection to this timeless instrument. \n  \nABOUT THE ARTIST – RAE HOWELL \nRae Howell is an award-winning Australian composer\, multi-instrumentalist and piano technician whose work fuses music\, sound and the environment. Founder of the Sunwrae Ensemble\, Rae creates innovative projects such as The Piano: Hook\, Line & Tinker\, an ‘exploded-view’ suspended piano installation revealing the instrument’s hidden mechanisms and stories. DESCRIPTION:What Happened at Christmas\nIn this season of light and memory\, the Barossa Regional Gallery becomes a place where stories return. A 30-foot tree once stood in the Tanunda Soldiers’ Memorial Hall; children gathered in its shadow\, families sang. Now\, those echoes meet new voices.  \nWe make\, we trace\, we write\, we remember. What Happened at Christmas is a weaving of heritage and imagination\, a tender invitation to share the traditions that shaped us\, and the ones we still carry. Here\, Christmas is not a date\, but a feeling of home.  \nJoin us in a gentle remembering; of wonder\, of belonging\, of the Barossa itself. A season held\, and held again.  \n \n  \nWhat Happened at Christmas invites the Barossa community to remember and share Christmas stories\, from childhood wonder to family traditions\, festive gatherings and moments of quiet connection. Handwritten memories\, family anecdotes and reflections from visitors will be displayed throughout the Gallery\, surrounded by decorations inspired by the region’s own Christmas heritage.  \n  \n  \nThree creative collaborations bring these stories to life:  \n\nMake a Pressed Tin Ornament: Printmaker Avylon Magarey has created linocut designs based on historic Barossa Christmas trees. Visitors are invited to trace and emboss these designs into soft aluminium to make ornaments to keep or add to the Gallery tree. \n\n\nPost a Christmas Memory: Artist Sam Cowley (Little Adventurers) has reimagined the Barossa Museum’s historic post office mailbox as a storytelling installation. Write your Christmas memory on special card from Daisy Loves George\, collect a stamp along a short walk through town\, and post it in the mailbox to hear voices sharing their own stories. \n\n\nGarlands & Stories: Start at Daisy Loves George\, where designer Anna Hayes has created stationery for you to write Christmas memory or message at their vintage letter writing desk. Seal it\, carry it through town\, and post it into the Gallery’s story mailbox. \n\n\nInside the Gallery\, paper garlands designed in the same spirit of colour and pattern hold the room in celebration.
