MORE INFORMATION
Calling all young music creators (age 14+)! This small-group workshop offers students a rare chance to learn directly from award-winning composer Rae Howell, currently the Barossa Women’s Artist-in-Residence.
In an encouraging and informal session, Rae introduces participants to her own approaches to composition — blending acoustic and environmental sounds with instrumental music — and demonstrates examples from her projects. Students then have the chance to experiment, guided by Rae, in creating short musical ideas of their own.
The workshop is ideal for youth and emerging composers who are curious about developing their personal style, exploring new sounds and gaining insight into the creative process.
With group sizes limited to just 6–8 participants, each student receives personal attention and practical tips for thinking about composition in fresh and imaginative ways. Whether you aspire to write for piano, ensembles or multimedia projects, this session offers inspiration and the confidence to start.
Bookings are essential — places are limited.
ABOUT THE ARTIST – RAE HOWELL
Rae Howell is an award-winning Australian composer, multi-instrumentalist and piano technician whose work fuses music, sound and the environment. Founder of the Sunwrae Ensemble, Rae creates innovative projects such as The Piano: Hook, Line & Tinker, an ‘exploded-view’ suspended piano installation revealing the instrument’s hidden mechanisms and stories. Her residency in the Barossa explores connections between people, place and the pianos that have shaped local musical life.
